![]() On the flanks of the Vaucluse facing Mt Ventoux, winds the Nesquick Gorge. Well, actually it's Les Gorges de la Nesque but Nesquick was easier for us to remember. It is a steep and precipitous path down and you would be wise to watch your footing carefully as the path drops some 300m quite rapidly into the cooler depths of the gorge. At the bottom is a 12 century roman chapel, Chapelle St-Michelle. It is a rather quaint structure hacked away into the side of the gorge, protected by vast swarthes of overhanging limestone. The ladder in the picture leads onto a ledge to a semblance of a roof, and as we were wondering around another couple turned up and the guy swarmed up the ladder and disappeared. It looked altogether too rickety to follow but I liked the light in this area and as luck would have it, his little dog waited playfully for his master to return. I always thought we had a lot of historical stuff around us in the UK, but here in Provenece, every village seemed to have it's own castle or chapel, often tucked away in most unlikely places like this one.
